Joyce Davies's Story

QUEENSBURY - Joyce Davies Harrison, 87, passed away on Wednesday, April 26, 2017 at the Glens Falls Hospital.
Born on March 7, 1930 in London, England she was the daughter of the late William H. and Dorothy (Perry) Davies.
Known by all who knew her to brighten a room with her soft blue eyes and infectious smile, she also had a great sense of humor with uncanny wit. Joyce was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother who never would miss a sporting event or concert for her children and grandchildren. She was the matriarch who prepared all the holiday meals often highlighted by her famous, Yorkshire pudding. She graduated from Westbury High School, Westbury, and Lasell College, Newton, Massachusetts.
Joyce enjoyed her career as both medical and legal secretary and volunteered as a Brownie and Girl Scout leader.
She married Dirck Harrison on Feb. 7, 1953, in Westbury. She and Dirck lived in Cooperstown, until they moved to the Glens Falls area in 1958. She had hobbies of calligraphy and knitting that turned into life careers, providing her craft of the pen for many graduations and weddings and knitting hats called, "Joyce's Choices."
Joyce was an avid lifelong reader and had a green thumb when it came to gardening. She also enjoyed playing tennis and golf as a part of the Glens Falls Tennis and Swim Club, at the Glens Falls Country Club and an active member of the Starlighters Golf League at Sunnyside. In addition to her love of golf and tennis, Joyce would also like to watch baseball, especially the New York Yankees and she was a staunch supporter of local hockey. A seasonal ticket holder, she supported since the early Adirondack Red Wings to being at the last Adirondack Thunder game the night before passing away. She was a huge fan of the arts, and always attended live theater at the Wood Theater, Proctors and the Glens Falls Symphony. With her other hobbies, Joyce loved to travel especially the cruises that she embarked on with her husband, Dirck.
She is survived by her loving husband of 64 years, Dirck D. Harrison of Queensbury; daughter, Gwyn (Tom) Chappell of Cumberland, Maryland; son, Bradford Harrison of Glens Falls; son, Andrew (Cathy) Harrison of Northfield, Massachusetts; son, Matthew(Mary) Harrison of Queensbury; grandchildren, Stephen Chappell (Cortney Mere) of Greensboro, North Carolina, Noah Harrison (Larissa Miner) of South Deerfield, Massachusetts, Samantha Harrison of Boulder Creek, California, Bailey Harrison of Boston, Massachusetts, Kennedy Harrison of Lake George and Regan Kaiser of Queensbury. Joyce is also survived by her identical twin sister, Jean (Peter) Stanley of Marshfield, Massachusetts.
Family and friends called from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday, May 1, at the Singleton Sullivan Potter Funeral Home, 407 Bay Road, Queensbury. A memorial service was conducted at 10 a.m., Tuesday, May 2, at the First Presbyterian Church of Glens Falls, Glen Street and W. Notre Dame Street, Glens Falls. Burial will be a private ceremony.
