Shirley M. Buck, a longtime resident of California, who had made her home in the Town of Middlefield since 1982, died peacefully, surrounded by her family, early Monday morning, May 17, 2010, at Otsego Manor.
She was 82. Born Aug. 31, 1927, in Brainerd, Minn., Shirley was a daughter of Horton Alonzo and Madge (Webster) Mosher. After graduating from high school in Minnesota, she moved to California, where she married Robert J. Buck on Aug. 8, 1947.
For many years, Shirley was employed as a supervisor at Kaiser Aerospace and Electronics in Palo Alto, Calif. Following her retirement in 1982, she moved to Cooperstown to be near her children.
During her years in Cooperstown, Shirley attended the Community Bible Chapel in Toddsville and maintained a quiet lifestyle that always centered around her family.
As a mother, Shirley was especially devoted to her three sons, Joe Buck and his wife, Vicki of Cooperstown, Jerry Buck and his wife, Kathy of Richfield Springs, and Steven Buck and his wife, Laura of Cooperstown; nine grandchildren, Michael Buck, Josh Buck, Alison Hyde, Kaitlyn Buck, Steven Buck, David Buck, Ashley Lauren Buck, Rachael Elizabeth Buck and Dominic Robert Buck; and two great-grandchildren, Briarre and Madison. Shirley also had three siblings, Robert Mosher, Carol Warren and Leona Young.
Shirley was predeceased by her husband, Robert J. Buck, who died May 16, 1998; and one grandson, Christopher Buck.
A private graveside service will be held at a later date in Lakewood Cemetery, Cooperstown. As an alternative to flowers, Shirley’s family suggests that donations be made in her memory to Pathfinder Village Foundation to benefit the school program, 3 Chenango Road, Edmeston, NY 13335- 2314.
