Robert Winne Striesse, a former resident of Charlotte, N.C., died unexpectedly Tuesday, Nov. 23, 2010, in Hartwick. He was 42.
Born Aug. 4, 1968, at Mary Imogene Bassett Hospital in Cooperstown, Robert was a son of Frederick A. and Beverly M. (Roseboom) Striesse.
In his youth, he moved to Florida and later graduated from high school in Jupiter. He then attended Johnson & Wales College in Charleston, S.C., and received an associate’s degree.
For more than 20 years, Robert was employed throughout the south as a chef in the food service industry. He was executive chef and kitchen manager for the Jolly Sailor Restaurant in Stuart, Fla., served as general manager of New England Fish Market & Restaurant in Jensen Beach, Fla., and was Sous Chef at Carpe Diem Restaurant in Charlotte, N.C. Most recently he was the kitchen manager for Charlotte Preparatory School and was line chef at the Raintree Country Club, both in Charlotte, N.C. His ability to supervise and manage high volume kitchens made him an asset in his chosen career.
Just recently, Robert returned home to Hartwick. He loved to read, and was a lot of fun to have around.
Robert is survived by his mother and father, Beverly and Frederick A. Striesse of Jupiter, Fla.; one brother, Frederick R. (“Rusty”) Striesse and his wife, Marian of Hartwick; two sisters, Teri DiCludio of Jupiter, Fla., and Susie Hershberger of Estil Springs, Tenn.; many beloved nieces and nephews; and his faithful dog, Pookie.
Services and burial will be private.
Arrangements are under the guidance of the Connell, Dow & Deysenroth Funeral Home in Cooperstown.
