Ralph's Story

Ralph Berg Iversen, age 98, died Friday evening, May 21, 2010, at Otsego Manor.
He was born Nov. 16, 1911, in Brooklyn, a son of Frederick and Laura (Berg) Iversen. After graduating from high school in Meyersville, N.J., Ralph went to work for the Coca-Cola Bottling Co., in Brooklyn and eventually became plant supervisor for the bottling plant.
Throughout his life, Ralph was also employed as a locksmith and a mechanic and also sold real estate.
On July 16, 1938, Ralph married the former Lillian Parr in the State of Maryland, and the two enjoyed 72 years together.
Upon his retirement, Ralph and Lillian moved to the Cooperstown area where they resided for the past 36 years.
Ralph was never one to join organizations, rather he much preferred to spend time with his family-he was a true family man.
Ralph is survived by his loving wife, Lillian, who resides at Otsego Manor; one daughter, Jeanne Krauss of Cooperstown; three sons, Robert Iversen and his wife, Nancy, of Cooperstown, Ralph Iversen of Detroit, Mich., and Richard Iversen of Rocky Point, Long Island; 11 grandchildren, Mary Ann Topalian and her husband, Steven, Sharon Iversen, Laura Bowman and her husband, Chip, John Colwell and his wife, Heather, Kelly Colwell, Kathleen Colwell, Christopher Iversen and his friend, Susan Berliner, Timothy Iversen and his wife, Tamara, Kristi Iversen, Denise Iversen, and Roger Iversen and his wife, Heather; 12 great-grandchildren, Mia, Frances, Ashley, Christina, Austin, Alexander, Lillianna, Tanner, Bradon, Lucia, Robert and Mary; and one brother, Roy Iversen and his wife, Julie, of South Carolina.
Friends called at the Connell, Dow & Deysenroth Funeral Home in Cooperstown from 3 to 5 p.m. Tuesday afternoon, May 25, 2010, when Ralph’s family was in attendance.
Immediately following the visitation, a funeral service was offered at 5 p.m. at the funeral home, with the Rev. Thomas E. Pullyblank, pastor of the Fly Creek United Methodist Church, officiating.
Following cremation, a private service of committal will take place at the Ecumenical Columbarium in the Church-yard of Christ Church in Cooperstown, with the Rev. Pullyblank officiating.
As an alternative to flowers, Ralph’s family requests that memorial donations be made in his memory to Catskill Area Hospice & Palliative Care, 1 Birchwood Drive, Oneonta, NY 13820.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Connell, Dow & Deysenroth Funeral Home in Cooperstown.
