Marjorie Edith Simmons, a native of Cooperstown, passed away Monday, April 11, 2011, in Florida. She was 88.
Born Feb. 5, 1923, she was a daughter of Charles A. and Ethel E. (Judson) Smith.
A graduate of Cooperstown High School, Class of 1940, Marjorie married her high school sweetheart, F. Robert Simmons, on Aug. 25, 1942, in the parsonage of the First Baptist Church of Cooperstown.
For many years she was employed as a cashier at the Red & White and A & P grocery stores on Main Street in Cooperstown,as well as Cherry Valley. For the past 44 years Marjorie and Bob have resided in Florida.
She was a charter member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary Unit 7128 in Cooperstown, a charter member of the Red Creek Valley Grange No. 1583, and was a former member of Otsego-Hartwick Chapter No. 201, Order of the Eastern Star in Cooperstown. While living in Florida, she attended the Lone Oak Baptist Church in Plant City.
Marjorie is survived by her husband of 68 years, Robert, of Frankfort; one son and daughter-in-law, Robert and Rosemary Simmons of Frankfort; grandchildren, Bobby and Robin Simmons and Sammy and Sonja Simmons; great-grandchildren, Willow, Rosie, Skye, Lily, Sophia, Justin and Cameron; one brother, Leland C. Smith and his wife,Genevieve, of Pearl River; one sister-in-law, Winola (“Winnie”) Denny-Smith, of Cooperstown; and several nieces and nephews, including nieces, Jeanne Struck and husband Richard, and Judy Monty and husband Al.
She was preceded in death by her brother, Raymond F. Smith, who died May 17, 2007.
A memorial service will be offered at 1 p.m. Friday, May 20, 2011, at the Connell, Dow & Deysenroth Funeral Home in Cooperstown, with the Rev. Douglas Deer, pastor of the First Baptist Church of Cooperstown, officiating.
Burial will be at a later date in Lakewood Cemetery, Cooperstown.

Arrangements are under the guidance of the Connell, Dow & Deysenroth Funeral Home in Cooperstown.
