John L. Mandzuk, 96, of Cooperstown, passed away peacefully Sunday evening, Feb. 6, 2011, at Otsego Manor where he received excellent care and love.
Born to the late Theodore Mandzuk and Francis (Sauczuk) Mandzuk on Oct. 8, 1914, in the Lower East Side of Manhattan, John lived a very quiet and unassuming life. He enjoyed classical music, played the violin and was a movie buff.
A graduate of New York University, 1958, John retired in January 1978, from a career as an accountant for the City of New York.
John is survived by his loving stepdaughter, Jan Gibson and her husband, Bill Gibson; stepgrandson, Will Gibson and his wife, Emily (Broe) Gibson, and their children, Eva and Patrick Gibson; two nephews, Gary and Dennis Fernando. He was predeceased by his sister, Catherine Fernando; and by his wife, Vera (Kaucka) Mandzuk.
A graveside service for family and close friends will be held in the spring. There will be no calling hours.
