MT. DORA, Fla. — James Loren Rose, beloved husband, father and grandfather passed away on Sunday, June 30, 2013, in Leesburg, Fla., at the age of 96.
He was born on Feb. 14, 1917, in West Winfield, to the late Edward and Daisy (Clapsaddle) Rose.
Following high school, he graduated from Michigan Agricultural College (MSU) in 1942 and began teaching vocational agriculture in Big Rapids, Mich. It was there he met his wife of 69 years, Alice (Chapman), marrying her in 1943. In 1946, he accepted a teaching position in Cherry Valley, which he held for the next 34 years.
Jim loved everything about farming and devoted himself to the Future Farmers of America, the Young Farmers, and instilling the love of the family farm in his students.
He is survived by his wife, Alice; his two sons, Larry (Vickie) Rose of Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla.; Richard (Marlene) Rose of St. Clair, Michigan; four grandchildren: Bryan (Laura) Rose of Frisco, Texas, Lynette Rose of Concord, Calif., Megan (William) Laws of Clinton Township, Mich., and Justin Rose of Pittsburgh, Pa.; and three great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will take place in the chapel of Waterman Village in Mt. Dora, Fla., at 2 p.m. on July 26, with the Rev. Allan Jones presiding.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Waterman Community Foundation Inc., Best Life Fund, 255 Waterman Ave, Mt. Dora, FL 32757
