Gerald's Story

FLY CREEK — Gerald E. Day, 80, of Bissell Road, passed away Sunday, Oct. 20, 2013, at Harding Nursing Home in Waterville.
He was born April 16, 1933, in New Berlin, a son of Leslie C. and Agnes Daniels Day and was a graduate of Cooperstown High School.
He joined the U.S. Navy in 1953, proudly serving until his honorable discharge in 1957.
On Jan. 2, 1961, Gerald married Joan McLean in Cooperstown. A lifelong Cooperstown resident, Gerald was a dairy farmer as well as being a mail carrier for the U.S. Postal Service in Cooperstown until retiring in 1989.
Surviving are his wife, Joan; two sons, Timothy Day and Jeffrey Day, both of Fly Creek; two sisters, Dorothy (Pete) Martin of Fly Creek and Irene Ackerman of Georgia; a brother, Leslie Day of Milford; and several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by a son, Tom on Sept. 4, 1984; brothers, Roger, Leon and Doug Day and sisters, Lois Bunn and Jeanette Holden.
In keeping with Gerald’s wishes, there are no services or calling hours.
Interment is private at the convenience of his family.
