Effie's Story

Effie L. Ainslie, a lifelong resident of the Fly Creek Valley area, passed away peacefully at her home Sunday night, Oct. 3, 2010, surrounded by her family. She was 84.
Born Sept. 16, 1926, in Fly Creek, she was the daughter of Norman A. and Bertha V. (Rundle) Locke. Raised in Fly Creek Valley, she attended local schools and graduated from Cooperstown High School with the Class of 1945. She then attended Albany Business College.
On Aug. 24, 1947, she married James S. Ainslie of Richfield Springs in a ceremony at the First Presbyterian Church of Richfield Springs.
Over the years she was employed by Beadle and Company Chevrolet, Buchanan Hardware and Patterson Brothers, all in Richfield Springs. She also worked for many years for Otsego County and upon her retirement was deputy clerk of the Board of Representatives.
Throughout their life together Effie and James loved going to county and state fairs, as well as several World’s Fairs. Effie’s love of rural life extended to her active roles in Grange activities. A member for over 50 years of the Fly Creek Valley Grange, she was also a member of Otsego County Pomona Grange, New York State Grange and National Grange.
Effie possessed a strong faith in the Lord and attended the Cooperstown Assembly of God. A vibrant woman who loved life, she truly enjoyed caring for her family, her horses and her gardens. She will be greatly missed.
Effie is survived by her husband, James, her lifelong love of 63years; two sons, Jim Ainslie and his partner, Doree VanTassel of Fly Creek and David Ainslie of Clinton; three grandchildren, Scott Ainslie and his wife, Debbie of Minnesota, Shannon Ainslie of Fly Creek and Aaron Ainslie and his wife, Joy of Palm Bay, Fla.; and three great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her mother, Bertha Locke, who died Dec. 11, 1953; her father, Norman Locke, who died July 12, 1988; and an infant brother.
A funeral service will be offered at 7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 8, 2010, at the Connell, Dow & Deysenroth Funeral Home in Cooperstown with the Rev. Bill Kirk of Syracuse, officiating. Effie’s family will receive friends at the funeral home from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday evening, prior to the service.
Interment will be private at a later date in Fly Creek Valley Cemetery.

Arrangements are under the guidance of the Connell, Dow and Deysenroth Funeral Home in Cooperstown.
