Doris B. Parshall, a longtime resident of Cooperstown, died Thursday morning, Dec. 9, 2010, at Iroquois Nursing Home in Jamesville. She was 93.
Born May 30, 1917, in Trenton, N.J., Doris was the daughter of John B. Burns Sr. and Beatrice E. (Jefferies) Burns. She graduated from Oneonta High School in 1936.
On Sept. 3, 1938, she married Harry L. Parshall Jr. in East Orange, N.J. Doris and Harry met while Harry was employed by Standard Oil in New Jersey. In 1939, they moved to Cooperstown _ of which Harry was a native _ and for the next 30 years operated his family’s dairy farm in the Town of Middlefield. For several years, Doris also was employed with the Farm Bureau and the Cornell Cooperative Extension in Cooperstown.
After residing for a time at Woodside Hall in Cooperstown, Doris moved to the Syracuse area to be near her son and his family.
Throughout her life Doris always liked to spend time with family, especially around the holidays. She especially enjoyed times spent socializing with friends in Cooperstown.
Doris is survived by her son, Harry L. Parshall III, and his wife, Jacqueline of Jamesville; a granddaughter, Leigh- Ann Parshall of Jamesville; a brother-in-law, Ernest Chase, of Cooperstown; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Doris was preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, Harry L. Parshall Jr., who died April 11, 2000, her brother, John B. Burns Jr., and her sister, Beatrice Anschuetz. Burial will take place at a later date in Lakewood Cemetery in Cooperstown.
