CHERRY VALLEY - Doris Lange, 86, of Cherry Valley, died Aug. 27, 2016, unexpectedly, at Bassett Hospital in Cooperstown.
Doris received her bachelor's degree in English from the University of Wisconsin and Master's in Education from SUNY Albany.
She wore many hats, mother, homemaker, school teacher, museum interpreter, newspaper columnist, author, and Peace Corps volunteer.
Doris lived life fully up to the end with Quaker meeting, her Wednesday ladies group, gardening, reading, writing, photography, word puzzles, weaving, collecting odd bits of nature to marvel over and bird watching.
She was an environmental and political activist, who campaigned for peace and social justice. "Reduce, Recycle, Reuse" was her mantra.
In true Doris fashion, she pre-registered to have her body donated to Albany Medical College.
She was lucky enough to have traveled in her 70's to Thailand, England, Peru, the Amazon, Jordan and Egypt.
She is survived by children, Bruce (Linda) Pedersen, Eric (Susan) Pedersen, Anne (Mike) Goodwin, Karl (Deb) Pedersen, Chrissa (Mark Dorfman) Pedersen; stepchildren, Karin Lange, Kristen (Matt Slentz) Lange, Eric (Helen) Lange; 21 grandchildren; and 14 great- grandchildren.
Memorial services will be held at 1 p.m., Monday, Sept. 5, at Windfall Dutch Barn, 2009 Clinton Road, Fort Plain.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Peace Corps, PBS, or Sierra Club.
