COOPERSTOWN Constance (Armitage) Wallace, 91, died peacefully at Basset Health Center in Cooperstown on Nov. 7, 2016.
Born in Cooperstown on Feb. 12, 1925, she was the daughter of Henry Raymond Armitage Sr. and Madelyn Montigel. She was a 1942 graduate of Cooperstown High School.
She was a member of Sigma Kappa Sorority and a 1946 graduate of Middlebury College.
She met her husband, Lavinder A. "Lav" Wallace in San Francisco, California, where she worked in research. They were married in Nevada and moved to her family home in Cooperstown in 1968 to raise their daughter, Marcie.
Connie was a member of the Women's Auxiliary of Bassett Hospital. She also volunteered with Little People's Theater and sewed many of their costumes in the early years.
She worked as a medical records clerk and ward clerk at Bassett Hospital in the 1980s and 1990s.
She was an avid gardener and maintained a vegetable garden at Brookwood for many decades.
Her husband and parents predeceased her.
She is survived by her brother, H. Raymond Armitage Jr. of Cooperstown; and daughter, Marcie (Steve) Ritter of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania; and grandchildren, Melinda and Aaron Ritter.
The family thanks the staff of Bassett Healthcare Cooperstown for their thoughtful care. The family is also thankful for all the wonderful staff and residents of the Thanksgiving Home for the loving community they provided.
