Carol Braider
RED HOOK — Carol Braider, 87, of Red Hook, passed away on March 16, 2013, at home.
Born Dec. 9, 1925, in Philadelphia, Pa., she was a daughter of the late Edward Swift and Ethel “Angel” Jennings Newton.
She was married to the late Donald Braider, who was a writer. She was a caterer and bookseller who wrote and published ‘The Grammar of Cooking’ in 1973. She and her husband were members of the artist community on the east end of Long Island in the 1950s.
Survivors include two sons, Christopher Sheehan Braider of Boulder, Colo., and Jackson Newton Braider of Boston, Mass.; a daughter, Susan Townley Braider of Red Hook; three sisters, Babette Walton of Hilton Head, S.C., Josephine Carothers of Salem, Mass., and Audrey Middleton of Horse Heaven, Ore.; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Services will be private.
Arrangements are under the Director of Yadack-Fox Funeral Home Inc., 209 Main St. Germantown.
