Arcangelo Anthony (Arch) Mogavero, born Sept. 12, 1922, in Cooperstown, died Friday, Feb. 26, 2010, in St. Petersburg, Fla., after an extended illness.
Survived by wife of 59 years, Mary Jane (Jari Whitsell) Mogavero; daughter, Mary Lu (Dale) English; sons, Joseph, Michael, Patrick (JoAnn) Mogavero, Peter (Tammy) Mogavero; 11 grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Preceded in death by parents, Joseph Anthony and Lucia (Cimino) Mogavero; brothers, Joseph Anthony Jr., and Salvatore (Sam) Mogavero; sisters and brothers-inlaw, Betti (Jim) Watson, Gaye (Armando) LLanes; and infant son, John Edward Mogavero. Arch was an Army veteran of World War II and received the Purple Heart for service in the European Theatre.
He was a graduate of Cooperstown High School, then continued his studies at the Clarkson Institute of Technology, graduating in 1947, with a bachelor of science degree in electrical engineering.
He was employed by the Bendix Aviation Corporation in Sidney, and General Electric in Cincinnati, Ohio, as a research engineer until his retirement in 1982.
He was a longtime member and Eucharistic Minister at St. John Vianney Catholic Church in St. Pete Beach, Fla.
Visitation is scheduled from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, March 3, 2010, at Beach Memorial Chapel.
A funeral Mass will be held at St. John Vianney in St. Pete Beach at 10 a.m. Thursday, March 4, 2010.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Florida Suncoast Hospice. Interment will be in Prospect Hill Cemetery in Sidney at a later date.
